Vimto adds fizz to Nichols plc

Soft drinks firm Nichols said sales are fizzing in the first 12 weeks of 2009.

Chairman John Nichols told shareholders at today’s annual meeting that strong sales last year have continued for the Newton-le-Willows group famous for its Vimto brand.

“Trading in the new financial year has started ahead of last year and ahead of our own internal expectations,” he said.

He said Vimto sales are 11.8% ahead in the 12 weeks to April 18 compared with a total soft drinks market increase of 0.6%, according to market research by AC Nielsen.

He added: “At this early stage we are pleased with the group’s progress and confident of sales and growth.”
