Speedy Hire wins Olympic Bid

Merseyside’s largest listed company, Speedy Hire, is part of a consortium that has won a key contract on London’s Olympic 2012 site.

The Newton-le-Willows firm and three other companies have formed Construction Site Solutions to operate one of two plant hire centres on the site.
The centres will hire out building equipment from cranes to excavators to contractors on the site.
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) says the centres will make the building programme more efficient.
Constructions Site Solutions is a limited liability partnership including Speedy Hire, Lavendon, BSS Group and Hewden Stuart.
The other centre will be run by a consortium led by Ashtead Plant Hire and including Aggreko, DHL, Greenshields JCB, Hilti, HSS Hire, LJG and Screwfix.
ODA director of construction, Howard Shiplee, said: “These two facilities will significantly reduce the number of journeys made within and around the Olympic park, as workers won’t have to leave the park to pick up and drop off tools and equipment.
“That means that we are reducing congestion and emissions from vehicles by providing facilities nearby that they would usually travel to get.”
The ODA says the planning application for the Olympic park, in East London, was one of the largest in European history.
