Businesses in St.Helens have increased their competitiveness and won extra business to the tune of more than £4million thanks to support from an innovative project aimed at boosting the economic strength of the Borough.
The Business Winning Business project is funded by the St.Helens Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI), a £20million, five-year programme launched to stimulate enterprise in the Borough, encourage the growth of local businesses and attract inward investment.
Since the project began, over £4m of additional business has been placed with St.Helens companies as a result of its support and participating businesses are currently tendering for further work valued at £5 million.
The project, which is delivered by St Helens Chamber in partnership with St.Helens Council, provides a range of services to local businesses to help them increase their competitiveness. These include tendering advice and support, promoting the use of ICT and the launch of an online tendering portal to simplify and speed up the tendering process and encourage internet trading.
It also holds regular Meet the Buyer events to bring local suppliers together with major buyers who are awarding contracts.
Helen Graham, Supply Chain Development Manager, St Helens Chamber, says: "The small companies that have gone through the Business Winning Business programme have all gained from the support they have received. The programme has also boosted the support available to people starting their own business in the Borough."
Councillor Neil Taylor, Executive Member for Urban Regeneration and Housing, says: "This is an outstanding success for St Helens Chamber and for the many businesses that have participated and benefitted from this support. A key objective of the LEGI programme is to help local businesses to grow and prosper and this dynamic project is enabling them to do just that.
"There is no doubt that the excellent business support that is available within St.Helens, together with the increasing number of competitive businesses that are thriving here, is a winning combination for the Borough."
